President's Welcome Message
Welcome to the 2025 pickleball season at the West Kelowna Pickleball Club. Currently the Mt. Boucherie courts are open for public play. Our club will begin organized play at some point in April. We will announce these events via our usual channels. Once again we will be offering multiple ways to get into the game including:
Drop in play
Weekly organized play
Player development opportunities
Monthly mixers
Hold My Court bookings
I would like to remind everyone that we lease but do not own the courts at Mt Boucherie and we are allowed to play there based on some key understandings between the club, the city and the school district. These key understandings include:
Courts 1 & 2 are for public play (yes if nobody is using courts 1 or 2, club members are welcome to play there BUT must vacate immediately if members of the public arrive)
The school district has access to the courts starting at 12:30 on school days (we don’t know which days they will be using the courts nor do we know if they will be there right at 12:30 so if you have reserved a court at 11:30 be prepared to move if students arrive)
If there are courts that are not being used by members during club times, the public is welcome to use those courts
Since we have been good stewards of the public facilities that we lease from the city, the city is willing to expand the number of courts available in West Kelowna (more information will be forthcoming so read your club emails!!!). This court expansion comes with a cost to the taxpayers, some of whom have complained to the city that their tax dollars are being utilized by non West Kelowna residents. As a result there will be a motion put forth at our AGM in the fall that non West Kelowna residents pay a higher membership fee.
Your WKPC Council has adopted some key guiding principles that we would like to share with you. Whenever we have to wrestle with a challenging question/situation we try to ask ourselves these questions:
What is in the best interest of the club?
How would I want to be treated in this situation? (i.e. The Golden Rule)
Can we create a win-win situation?
We are hoping that our members will ask themselves these same questions when dealing with club related issues. If this were to happen then I, as president, would be spending a lot less time dealing with PBD (Pickleball Behaviour Disorder).
On behalf of the WKPC council I want to wish everyone a very safe, enjoyable pickleball season.
Ed Stuerle
WKPC President

Our club began play on new courts provided by the City of West Kelowna in September 2017. Since then we have grown quickly and hope to provide opportunities for fun and competitive play for all. The club promotes a friendly, safe and collegial environment that strives for excellence in all areas of pickleball.
